Altab Ali: remembering the martyr at the Altab Ali Park 32 years on, along with paying a timely homage to Blair Peach, Kenneth Singh, Ishaque Ali and Tosir Ali

That memorial event was held at the Altab Ali Park, Whitechapel Road, and London E1 earlier today, Tuesday 04 may 2010.

There is only one day left before another local election day. This time it is 06 May 2010.

On the Thursday that Altab Ali was murdered on the Whitechapel Road, it was the date of the 1978 local elections.

One of Altab Ali’s acquaintances, Shamus Miah who spoke today, recalled how he had just cast his votes at the primary school in Brick lane and spoke to Altab Ali who was on his way home after work. Altab Ali said he would go and cats his vote near where he lived only a few minutes' walk away!

He never got to cats his vote on that Thursday.

Or on any other day.

[More here shortly on the events held today]
